Why Make Your Own Popsicles?

There are so many reasons to make you own healthy homemade popsicles.

  1. It is so much healthier to make your own! Store-bought popsicles are normally filled with synthetic ingredients while homemade ones use wholefoods only.
  2. It’s cheaper to make your own. It cost me about $5 to make 12 healthy cheesecake popsicles. The closest equivalent I could find which wasn’t cheesecake flavoured cost $5.50 for 6!
  3. Change up the flavours to whatever you like! Doesn’t have to be berries. Add whatever frozen or fresh fruit you’d like!
  4. Control the sugar content. You can swap the sugar for whatever sweetener you like! Whether it’s honey, maple syrup, or a solid grain sugar like rapadura or raw. You have full control of how sweet these are.

Homemade Popsicle Tips

  1. Cook the berries first! Seriously cooking your fruit first enhances the flavour and concentrates the natural sugar in the fruit. It really adds to the flavour!
  2. Use quality ingredients: Of course with anything if you want it to taste good start with good ingredients.
  3. Use a silicone mould: To make these easy to pop out get some good silicone moulds! You won’t regret it. Silicone mould really help pop your popsicles out without straining or breaking them.
  4. Have fun with the flavours: Change up the fruit to whatever fruit is in season. Have fun and try different combinations like strawberry and lavender!
  5. Recipe replacement tips: You can swap out the milk for cream, non dairy milk or milk kefir. Milk kefir is a great way to add probiotics and honestly you can’t taste it!

Ingredients

  1. Cream cheese: This can’t be called a cheesecake popsicle without cream cheese. This is what makes the recipe so creamy and delicious.
  2. Maple syrup: You can also use honey or a different sweetener of your choice. Maple syrup gives this a lovely natural sweetness.
  3. Milk: You can use dairy milk or non dairy milk. You want to thin down the mixture some as cream cheese is very rich and thick. You can also use cream or milk kefir for probiotics!
  4. Frozen Fruit: I used berries but you can use whatever frozen or fresh fruit your heart desires.
  5. Vanilla: Adds a lovely extra flavour to these creamy popsicles.

Equipment

Silicone popsicle moulds: You will need moulds to shape your popsicles. I highly recommend silicone ones as these make it easy to pop your popsicles out.

Blender, hand whisk or food processor: You will want something to mix your ingredients with thoroughly.
