It’s a cold winters night, the fire is crackling warmly in the corner of the living room. A beautiful wreath, decorated with baubles, cinnamon sticks and pinecones is hanging above the fireplace mantle.
The room is brightened with half a dozen candles burning in different spots. The couch is crowded with little people watching the flames under a throw rug while happily sipping warm hot chocolate from mugs.
There are merry tunes lightly playing in the background.
To have a lovely warm, cozy home this winter you do not need a lot of things or need to spend a lot of money. Creating a beautiful home using what you have at home or what can be found in nature are one of the best ways to decorate your home for the season.

There is something charming and beautiful about wreaths hanging on the wall. They are easy and inexpensive to make or of course you can purchase one. Having multiple wreaths in different parts of the house really brings in the bright cheerfulness of the holiday seasons.

I had never even heard of an apple pomander until I read The Little house on the prairie! Their mother received one as a Christmas gift. After reading this I quickly looked into it and found out that apple and oranges were commonly studded with cloves to make a room smell nice.
These can easily be made at home in different styles. They can be used as centre pieces on a dining table, placed on a wreath or hung from a tree. Apple and orange pomanders are very cute, inexpensive to make, add a bit of colour and a lovely scent into the home.

Another festive and easy way to decorate your home is with garlands. You can either purchase a garland or make one yourself.
Garlands traditionally were made with foliage that were tied up together until it reached the desired length. People would use garlands to decorate the mantel, decorate the table, they look beautiful on entry ways or on windowsills.
A garland whether homemade or store bought adds greenery and brings life into a space. There are so many options and ways to make a garland just find one that suits your needs.

Citrus is generally a winter fruit and there is an abundance of lovely citrus. Dehydrating citrus on a low temperature in a dehydrator or oven will save the vibrant colours.
These beautiful, dehydrated slices of fruit are a great and inexpensive way to add colour and excitement into your home this winter. Dried citrus also has a smell for the first week or so after being dehydrated.

Pinecones are a lovely neutral colour and can be found virtually all over. They are a big thing around Christmas time, they really do remind one of autumn or winter.
They are super versatile and can be used as centrepieces, hung from the tree, added onto wreaths, placed in jars and so much more. Something so small and so simple can add a lot of character into a space and beauty.
Don’t underestimate the joys of placing pinecones in different spots of your home to really embrace the cooler months to come! If you really want to get creative, you can even spray them to look like they have snow on them!
Snowflakes
Snowflakes are beautiful, all different and enchanting. There’s something magical about glittery snowflakes hanging from the mantel place, strung on Christmas trees or just dangling majestically from the ceiling. They also work well on garlands strung across a piece of furniture like a bookshelf.
Paper snowflakes are so easy to make! They are a fun activity the whole family can get in on and really add to the festive look.
Candles
Fire is the essence of a lovely, cozy and warm home. The cooler weather is the best time to utilise the natural lighting from candles. The flicker of a candle, the warmth from the fire, the soft crackling sound if you happen to have a wooden wick candle sets the mood and tone for a warm autumn/winter home.

Kitchen Appliances And Utensils
Baking and cooking are always a big time during the cooler months. Displaying some kitchen appliances on the counter like a clear mason jar filled with cookie cutters.
Displaying wooden cutting boards and rolling pins on the counter can be a really beautiful way to add to the autumn/winter look.

Quilts And Blankets
Nothing says warm, cozy and comforting than a lovely quilt or blanket placed on a couch. You can make your own quilt, buy one or take it a step further and buy seasonal quilts.
Quilts add cosiness, texture and fun into the space. It’s an easy way to decorate your home and many quilts can be found for cheap or reasonably priced on Facebook marketplace, op shops or gumtree. Look around and get cozy this winter with a lovely quilt.
A Real Christmas Tree
While I do not celebrate Christmas myself. For those who do, having a real tree in the home or even a realistic looking tree really says winter is here. Greenery in general brings life, and joy into the home.
A real tree will also have a nice smell to it adding to the winter feelings. Having winter greens in your home will add to the beauty of the home.
Nothing says winter, cosiness and happiness than a lovely tree twinkling with lights.
Homemade Stockings
I think stockings are so cute and such a lovely tradition to have hanging over the mantle. While reading little house in the prairie it was adorable the girls would place their stocking over a chair and find fruit, pennies and little candy in them come Christmas day and the pure excitement.
Store bought or homemade stockings add a lovely element to the winter season. It ties in the festivities of the coming months; they are cheap to buy or make and go along well with an old fashion way of decorating the home.
