Easy Homemade Chai Syrup
Chai syrup is so easy to make!
I absolutey love chai lattes and chai tea, but these can be a bit costly to purchase. Plus, I found it hard to find places that made their chai drinks strong enough.
Turns out making homemade chai syrup is cheap, easy and super delicious! You can make this chai syrup with a few basic ingredients and 15 minutes of your time!

What is Chai Syrup
Chai syrup is made with spices, water and sugar. You simmer water and sugar with the spices to get a delicious flavourful syrup.
You can use this syrup to flavour drinks, desserts and more!
Why Make Your Own?

There are so many reasons why you should make your own chai syrup!
- It’s very inexpensive to make! Once you buy the spices you can make many many batches of this syrup to flavour your drinks or desserts.
- Making your own is so easy and you can customise the taste. Maybe you like a bit more cinnamon, or you want a stronger nutmeg taste. Hey, maybe you want to add a little orange or more vanilla to change up the flavour!
- It’s healthier than buying storebought chai syrup. Very basic ingredients and a fridge is all you need!
Ingredients Needed

1/2 cup water: I use filtered water.
3/4 cup sugar: Rapadura or brown sugar adds a really lovely flavour, but you can use whatever sweetener you like.
Spices: 1/2 tsp of ginger, cardamon and nutmeg
1/4 tsp clove
1 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp vanilla extract
1 star anise
How to Make Chai Syrup
- Put all your ingredients into a small pot.
- Boil and mix all the ingredients for 5 minutes.

3. Let the mixture cool for about 20 minutes then strain into a small container with a lid.
4. Place the container in the fridge.
How To Store Your Syrup
Place you syrup into a clean jar with a lid and store it in the fridge. This syrup can last several weeks in the fridge due to all the spices.
Because of the sugar I wouldn’t store it on the counter.
Ways to Use Chai Syrup
You can use this syrup in so many ways! Here are a few ideas for you!
- Make a hot or cold chai tea.
- Use it when making desserts like muffins, apple pie ect.
- Top waffles or pancakes with chai syrup.
