What You Need To Make This Recipe
Ingredients
- Sweet potatoes: You will need one medium sized peeled and cubed sweet Potatoe for this recipe.
- Potatoes: You will need 2 medium size potatoes, peeled and cubed.
- Apples: 1 apple peeled and cubed. I personally love using green apples as they are crunchy and delicious but any apples will do.
- Red onion: 1/2 a red onion diced finely. They go sweet and taste amazing when cooked!
- Sea salt: Salt helps to bring out the flavour.
- Oil: I personally love to cook these in coconut oil, but you can use any high smoke point oil.
Supplies
There are only a few things you will need to make this, and you should already have everything you need at home.
- Pan: I love using cast iron pans as they retain the heat well and are nonstick when used properly but any medium sized pan will do!
- Knife: You will want and need a sharp knife for dicing your ingredients.
- Spatula: For mixing, stirring and serving your fried sweet potato dish.
Tips For Success
- Cube the potatoes: Try and cube your potatoes so they are somewhat even. I like to cube mine, so they are about 1 inch each. This will help with even cooking and having them smaller will allow them to cook faster all the way through.
- Use a large enough preheated pan: You don’t want your ingredients to be too crowded. Make sure you pan is large enough to fit everything comfortably. This will help with the crispiness of your potatoes.
- Have plenty of oil: Make sure there is enough oil to cover your vegetables, so you get nice crunchy potatoes instead of soggy ones.
- Don’t cook everything at the same time: Make sure to cook the potatoes first and add the red onion and apple at the end. They don’t need nearly as long to cook as your potatoes and will turn into charcoal if you start them at the same time.
How To Make This Dish (Step By Step)
- Get your oil heating up on medium heat in a saucepan while you dice your vegetables and apple.
- Once the oil is hot add the diced sweet potatoes and diced potato to your pan.
- Let them cook for about 5 minutes before mixing them around so they get crunchy on all sides and cook for a further 5ish minutes.
- Once potatoes are starting to get crispy add the red onion and diced apples.
- Cook for another 3 minutes or so until red onion is cooked, and potatoes look crispy.
- Using a slotted spatula or metal spoon scoop out your fried food and place on a plate lined with paper towel.
- Sprinkle with sea salt and allow the excess oil to drain for a few minutes and then serve.
How To Store
Once the sauteed sweet potato dish has completely cooled down you can store the extra in an airtight container. Place this in the fridge and it will keep for up to a week!
