How To Make Homemade Spreadable Butter

Spreadable butter is so easy to make it’s shocking! It’s also very convenient to have on hand. I mean who doesn’t love to have spreadable butter on their toast! It’s just two simple ingredients and you will have delicious butter that is easy to spread in no time!

I have been making spreadable butter for several years now because it’s so easy, delicious, cost effective and there are no hidden nasties that you definitely find in the store-bought ones!

It’s actually shocking if you look at some of the ingredients in the store-bought spreadable butters! We really enjoy using softened butter. Normal butter left out on the counter can go rancid with time, which is why it’s so handy making your own softened butter that is stored in the fridge ready to be used at a moments notice!

What Types Of Oil Can You Use For Making Spreadable Butter?

The best types of oils I have found for making easy to spread butter are the oils that have a mild flavour and don’t go hard in the fridge. I personally am not a fan of the taste of olive oil in my butter. It leaves a very distinctive taste which we do not like.

I also wouldn’t recommend using coconut oil because of its strong taste and it goes hard in the fridge. Avocado oil, grapeseed oil and rice bran oil all work very well because of their mild flavour, and they stay a liquid in cold temperature. This is important if you want your butter to spread easily!

All you need to make this easy to spread butter is 2 maybe 3 ingredients max! You will also want either a fork, whisk or handheld blender. A good American brand would be this one Handheld blender.

You will need butter which can be salted or unsalted up to you! Place the butter into a bowl and let it soften to room temperature. You will also need a mild flavoured oil and salt if you are using an unsalted butter and want to add your own salt in.

You will need to let your butter come to room temperature first. This can take a couple hours; you want it to be very soft. You want an equal amount of oil to butter ratio to get that beautifully softened butter.

Add the oil to the butter and salt if you wanted it into your bowl. Then using a fork, whisk or handheld blender (blender is easier) mix the ingredients together until nice and smooth.

Pour the butter mix into your chosen container, place the lid on it and place it in the fridge to store. Use as needed! That’s it, how easy it that!

How To Use Homemade Spreadable Butter?

I personally use it on toast, breads, waffles, pancakes and other baked goods. Just pull it out of the fridge, scrape it with a knife and lather on your chosen food!

You can also use it in many recipes to replace butter. I will sometimes use it in my homemade cookies or other recipes calling for pre-softened butter and it works great!
