How To Stay Motivated as a Homemaker
Staying motivated as a homemaker is not always easy. Some days are better than others. And sometimes we just get in a rut.
I understand. Actually, this was me just before writing this post! I was tired, feeling down, tired of the repetitiveness and just didn’t want to do anything.

We all go through stages, sometimes it can last a few hours, it might last a few days or maybe even a few weeks. But at some point, it’s up to you to snap yourselves out and no one else can really do it for you.
So here are some things I do to try and snap myself out and bring back some excitement and joy.
Think About Your Why
You just woke up, and your mind is going through the long list of things you have to do today before you can get back into bed. And let’s be honest that already sounds defeating and exhausting.
But why do you get up? Because you have kids to feed, animals to care for, a husband who needs you, a home that needs looking after?
Without you let’s be honest things start to fall apart. Why did you want to be a wife, a mother a homemaker to begin with? What about being those things made you excited, smile and dream up that life?
A wife and mother is irreplaceable in the home, you are irreplaceable in the home. Stop and think about your why for that day. I totally get it maybe you need a bit more, here’s what I do next if my why doesn’t currently feel good enough.
Find Inspiration

Yep, normally there is one maybe two things I just don’t want to do that day like cleaning or cooking. So, you know what to do right?!
Go look through some simple healthy meal ideas that catch your eye and you’d actually like to try and make. Have a quick look through Pinterest for inspirational home ideas, cooking ideas or whatever it may be that makes you excited to get up and give it a go.
Now I want to be clear, this is not a let’s spend hours on my phone. This is a quick what am I struggling with today and let’s find something that looks fun and new I can try to get that thing or things done.
Do Something That Sparks Joy Everyday
The days can feel long, boring and very repetitive sometimes. Not every day is like that, but sometimes it’s the weather, maybe sickness has been through the house, and you are stuck at home more.
Whatever it may be it’s important to do something every day that makes you happy! Do you love to sew, crochet, drink a warm cup of coffee or tea?
Maybe you are thinking there’s lots I love to do but I have kids and they kind of get in the way of me enjoying those things. Well, can they be incorporated into it.
Can you share your love of tea, crafts, reading with your children? Yes, sipping a hot cup of coffee or tea by yourself is lovely but sipping it with your little ones around a table is pretty sweet too.
While I do my craft, I normally will have age-appropriate crafts set up for them to do independently. Or I might read a book that I like to them as well like Chronicles of Narnia, Little house in the Prairie series or Anne of Green Gables.
Or honestly, we have quiet time, and they play quietly while I read, crochet or do what I like.
Maybe it’s just listening to a podcast while you are cooking a meal. Find something you can do that will bring a smile to your face.
Get Dressed for The Day
This is pretty important. Getting dressed for the day sets the intention for the day. Staying in pyjamas says I don’t plan on doing a lot.
But putting on something that makes you feel good says I’m ready for the day. So get dressed, brush your hair, brush those teeth and you’ll see you are already on a good start.
I find when I’m really feeling down taking an extra couple of minutes to do something nice to my hair and having a cute apron just sets me up to start my homemaking duties.
So, if you are in a funk why not try it. Who can be sad when they are looking so good.
Start The Day with Nutritious Food

It’s hard to stay motivated as a homemaker if you are hungry or eating poorly. No one can work well on an empty stomach.
They say what you start your morning with is what you will crave all day! So, start the morning with something nourishing.
If you are cooking for the kids make sure you make enough for yourself as well. If mornings are a bit tricky make a smoothie the night before, cook boiled eggs ahead of time to snack on for the next few days or get a chia pudding together the night before.
Whatever you do try your best to start the day with something that will fuel your body and your mind. Sweet and sugary might sound nice but it will just be leaving you wanting more and crashing later.
Listen To Something While You Work
Listening to upbeat music while doing your housework can really make a difference. While you move to the rhythm and it makes time go faster.
I personally love listening to podcasts while work. Things that inspire me to be a better housewife, mother and wife or listening to something I want to learn.
Having something good and uplifting playing through the house just makes the job easier. Makes time go by faster and helps to stop any negative thoughts you might have going through your mind otherwise.
Gratitude Snapshots
As your go through your day try and take a mental snapshot of things you liked or even loved. The sunrise, birds flying, kids sharing or playing and laughing.
You’ll be surprised just how many precious and beautiful moments go on through the day that we can completely miss. If you tend to forget, maybe write down the things you are grateful for so you can look back on.
Change Up the Scenery
Another way you can stay motivated as a homemaker is to change up the scenery. Go for a walk by yourself or with the kids.
Just step outside on your balcony or porch for a moment and feel the sunshine and smell the fresh air.
Sometimes all you need is a little change. Maybe it’s even time to move some of the furniture around. Keep things looking fresh and new.
I totally get it, things can just go blah after a while and we are ready for something new, some sort of change. You don’t need to buy new things just change things around a bit and viola you have a fresh new look.
Move Your Body
I have heard energy begets more energy. For the most part I think this is true. Getting your body moving just feels good.
Remember you don’t have to do a 30-minute strenuous workout to feel good. I’ve found 10 minutes stretching my body, or a 10-15 minute full body Pilate video to do wonders.
It seems to wake the body up and say okay I’m ready for the day. So even if you just roll out of bed and start reaching for those toes, you’ll find getting some movement can really change the way your day goes.
Connect With Someone

We are social beings. Connecting with friends, your kids, your husband can make all the difference between a good and a bad day.
Try to stop and chat, laugh, play a game, take a walk together with someone who makes you happy.
Conclusion
Some days are harder than others. The point though is to not get stuck in a rut of I don’t want too’s. I hope this list of ways to stay motivated as a homemaker has inspired you to change the way you think.
What’s your favourite thing on the list that will make the biggest difference to your day?!
