  1. Number one the list for warm and cozy autumn activity has to be baking! Baking bread, pies, cookies, cakes all those lovely comforting warm foods. It’s a great activity to do by yourself or with kids. Plus, it warms up the house during the cooler months. Even if you don’t think you are a baker cookies are hard to mess up so give baking a go this autumn and make some great memories!
  2. Make warm drinks to slowly sip on together as a family. Think Hot Cocoa with marshmallows floating on top, delicious eggnog, warm teas, a cup of coffee or maybe try some pumpkin spiced latte!
    • There is just something so comforting about holding a warm beverage in your hand and slowly sipping it down. It really helps to slow down time and make you focus on the moment.
  3. Roast marshmallows around a fire. Generally, the weather is dryer, there are more dried leaves and sticks ready for burning and it’s cooler. Why not sit around a warm fire and roast marshmallows together!
  4. Cook comforting hearty meals like beef stew, Chicken Noodle soup, casseroles and pies. Use your slow cooker as much as possible.
    • It’s so easy to pour a bunch of ingredients in the morning and come nighttime you have a delicious, warm and healthy dinner!
  5. 5. Learn a new handicraft together! Even pretty young kids can pick up finger crocheting pretty easily. This is the best time of year when you are stuck inside to learn something new together.
    • Wether you want to sew, learn origami, crochet or do embroidery you’ll be amazed how there is something just about every age can learn and engage in! If you are stuck inside a lot more might as well enjoy learning a new skill. You might find you love it, and a new hobby has formed.

Autumn Craft Ideas

  1. Carve a pumpkin! Wether you do Halloween or not carving a pumpkin is so much fun! It doesn’t have to be spooky carvings just have fun creating and making memories. Don’t forget to add the candle at night to see your creation come to life!
  2. Dehydrate citrus to make garlands, wreaths and start making Christmas decorations. If you have a dehydrator or oven, you can easily slice some citrus thinly and let it dehydrate on low. Not only do they taste delicious added to sparkling water, but they can be used to make some awesome crafts for the home!
  3. Make apple and orange pomanders. This is so easy and so fun to do. It leaves a lovely aroma in the house and looks beautiful. Orange and apple are normally abundant. All you need is some citrus fruit and cloves, and you can make some really beautiful decorations for the table, the tree or for wreaths.
  4. Make candles. Why not try your hands on making the melt and pour candles! This is a great time to add more natural lights and warmth into the home. Or if you are up for it make tea light candles, stick candles or fill your own jar! I really love wooden wick candles as they have a little crackle like a fireplace! You will create great memories and make beautiful creations.
  5. Decorate glass jars for tea light candles. Do you have some cute glass jars on hand? Why not either paint on dried flat flowers or leaves on them or use glass paint. This is the season for candles and warmth so make fun and cute glass jars to hold your candles in is a super fun and enjoyable project!
  6. 6. Make an Autumn wreath or garland. These are super easy and so much fun. Kids can easily get involved and help out. It’s a great way to get into the season as a family and give your home or bedrooms those fun fall feelings! You don’t need much to make a garland and the possibilities are endless!

Indoor Activities

Indoor activities for fall season.
  1. Read books! Either read by yourself in a comfortable spot nestled in a cozy blanket. Or read to your kids all close, warm and cozy. Make it a challenge and see how many books you can get through this autumn!
    • Wether it’s picture books, chapter books or autumn themed books, there is so much joy and happy memories made while reading together. Now that the weather is cooling down cuddling up all together inside and reading is a great way to enjoy family time, with minimal jumping kids hopefully.
  2. Make a stovetop potpourri! This is super easy to do and makes your house smell like Autumn. You can add cinnamon, cloves, different spices and citrus peels. It’s a great way to add autumn feels into your home and the potpourri can last several days too! Lots of recipes if you look up online!
  3. Get into crafts. I’ve listed several fun and lovely craft options above that you and your family will love. If you are finding yourself indoors more why not create fun and beautiful things to decorate your home!
  4. Make a fort inside. If you have some blankets and chairs, you can easily make a little indoor fort. We have a Fort building kit that we bought from amazon.
    • It has been amazing, and the kids have so much fun creating different types of forts. Seriously a great buy if you are wanting to keep the kids entertained! The only thing you need is some extra blankets to cover those awesome forts in.
    • Sometimes they sleep in them at night, or I’ll go in and read them stories in the fort. It just makes it extra special and fun when the days are not so nice.

Outdoor Activities

A list of Fall activities you can do as a family. There are indoor, outdoor, craft and cozy Autumn activities you will love!
  1. Go for walks. Now that the weather isn’t as hot going for walks and enjoying the colours of nature is truly inspiring. All the autumn colours with their greens, oranges, yellows and reds is something you shouldn’t miss. Go on different trails and explore the parks. I personally think this is one of the best times of the years to enjoy the outdoors!
  2. Check out local fairs and festivals. Autumn time is filled with fairs and festivals. Go check them out and enjoy seeing the harvest fairs and who has the biggest vegetables! Why not participate if you can! Enjoy the popcorn, the sounds and see what’s new happening. You’d be surprised how many things are on and running!
  3. Go to a pumpkin patch and pick pumpkins. This is so much fun as an adult and of course for kids! Who doesn’t want to go and find the biggest pumpkin for pumpkin carving! Or maybe you just want to decorate your front porch. Either way pumpkin picking is pretty fun and special in my books.
  4. Go on a hay ride! Sit back and enjoy a hayride with the family. Sitting on a wagon filled of hay is something pretty special to try at least one time. They normally take you around on a little tour of some sort and might even drop you of at a pumpkin picking field. Either way it’s a fun experience to have and normally Autumn is the time of year to do it!
  5. Pick apples from a local farm! Apple picking is fun. Sure, you can buy apples from the shop but filling up a bag of apples you picked supports your local farmer, they are fresher, and it creates a fun memory. After your done picking your tasty fresh apples you then get to enjoy eating and baking those apples you picked!

Conclusion

I hope this list inspires you to enjoy and embrace this beautiful season. Every season has its specialty, but Autumn is truly beautiful and fun.
