It’s so easy to wish a season away but I hope with this post to encourage to enjoy all the beauty and fun this season can bring.

Making A Memorial Summer

There are so many ways to make this summer and every summer after memorial.

Creating traditions is a great way to start so why not give it a go this summer. Bake things you’d only really make in the summer months. We love making popsicles and homemade ice cream over here!

Spend lots of time outdoors with the people you love enjoying nature and the warm sun and of course a swim!

Listen to the chorus of bugs, and just enjoy every moment without rushing through it. Don’t forget to do lots of simple packed lunches while you are out exploring!

Making something memorial doesn’t have to be difficult. It’s the simple things that make all the difference.

1. Enjoy A Picnic

Having a summer picnic outside with a picnic blanket, picnic basket and food.

While it’s warm outside why not go out and enjoy a picnic! Wether it’s by yourself, with friends, family or with your kids a picnic is always relaxing!

The best part of summer picnics is you can keep it very simple, cool refreshing pieces of fruit, vegetable sticks and dips, crackers, cheese and of course sandwiches. It doesn’t matter if mess is made you are outdoors.

Enjoy the sunshine, warmth, sounds of nature and the feel of the wind on skin. Let the kids run around freely, enjoy a good book or become emerged in great conversations.

Picnics are a great way to get away from list of things you have to do at home, stay away screens and fully emerge yourself in the moment. Try and do it once a week! It will quickly be something everyone is looking forward to!

2. Get Wet

Can you say you enjoyed summer if you didn’t get wet! This is the time to embrace water, while the sun is hot and water is cool and refreshing on your skin.

Wether you head of to the beach, a local creek or lake or maybe you just put the sprinklers on in the backyard. Water is a must during the hot summer months!

We love looking for random local creeks around that we can enjoy and the kids love putting the sprinkler on under the trampoline.

We also love just going out in the summer rain. It’s refreshing on a hot day. Other fun ideas involving water is water balloon fights, water gun fights and of course don’t forget the pool!

A great way to make memories, have fun and cool off!

3. Go For Walks

This is a great time to explore nature parks and go for hikes. I wouldn’t go in the middle of the day, but morning and afternoons are a great time to start exploring the natural spaces around you.

It’s not too cold that you can watch an early morning sunrise or watch an afternoon sunset. Get some extra exercise and fresh air whether it’s just walking around the neighbourhood or going to a local park.

The different seasons bring different beauty, it’s fun to see how the seasons change the same area you see everyday.

4. Movie Under The Stars

Get a picnic blanket and go find a local drive thru. If you don’t have one near you why not find a blank wall or put up a white sheet tightly and put a projector on outside.

There is something so fun about going outside to enjoy a movie and it creates a whole other experience. Sometimes certain parks also play outdoor movies for free. Don’t forget to pack a picnic dinner or get some takeaway and of course have some popcorn on hand!

These experiences are so much fun, and nighttime is generally cooler as well.

5. Start Gardening

Growing a garden for sustainable living.

This is the best time to grow many different plants. You can grow something no matter where you live.

Windowsills are a great place for herbs and salad greens to grow! Balconies can be a great space to add high yielding plants in a small space horizontally like tomatoes, cucumbers along with herbs and greans.

Of course if you have a back yard you can grow so many more things! Don’t forget gardening doesn’t have to be just food, you can grow beautiful flowers to attract pollinators or use as cut flowers to decorate your home!

6. Explore Nature

Go outside and try and do weekly outings to different spots! You will be shocked how many places are really around you.

Check out different beaches, lakes, rivers, creeks, national parks and walking trails just to name a few. Maybe you have some cool caves in the area or you can stay up and look for fireflies as the sun sets!

Don’t waste the summer indoors when there is so much beauty and excitement outside!

7. Enjoy Summer Food and Drinks

Beautiful glass filled with peach iced tea, peppermint leaves and slice peaches.

With every season part of the fun is enjoying the seasonal foods! I have an awesome post for Healthy Homemade Summer Drinks. Think of peppermint, iced teas, smoothies and more.

Using lots of fresh produce is key! Go to the farmers markets and stock up on seasonal food which is more nutritional and generally cheaper. This is a great time to have lots of herbs added to your meals as well.

Food wise think of fresh delicious salads, Homemade Simple Salad Dressing Recipes, delicious wraps, charcuterie boards!

I love a good dessert too, like cheesecakes, Healthy Homemade Ice Cream, topping breakfast items with fresh fruit, popsicles and more!

This is such a fun time to enjoy simple yet flavourful dishes in your home!

Conclusion

Don’t waste this summer indoors. Make sure to enjoy the fresh air, the smell of flowers and the local seasonal food. Make your summer memorial by starting little family traditions that will stick in your mind forever!
