What Is a Shepherd’s Pie?

From what I saw Shepherd’s pie originates from Britian. It is normally made from minced lamb, but beef is commonly used as well.
It’s made in a casserole dish with a layer of meat and vegetables. Then topped with a layer of creamy mashed potato and then baked.
It’s a hearty, filling and delicious dish that people enjoy all over the world.
Tips For an Amazing Shepherd’s Pie
Here are some tips to make an amazing shepherds pie!
- Don’t add too much liquid to your shepherd’s pie. You want it to hold it shape not become slop when you go to serve. If there is a lot of liquid add some flour or gluten free option add tapioca flour so it thickens the liquid into more of a sauce.
- Add spices while your meat is cooking not after. The meat absorbs the flavour instead of the flavour just sticking to the top of it.
- Homemade broth is so much better and more flavourful than store bought. But if that’s all you have that’s fine too! Click the link above if you want to start making your own nutritious, homemade bone broth!
- Don’t forget to top your shepherd’s pie with melted butter for a beautiful golden top!
- For extra smooth mashed potatoes, you can use a stick blender.
