Everyone loves a good crunch, and these hash browns won’t let you down! All you need is just a few simple ingredients and you will be on your way to making these oh so good hash browns.
They are so good with eggs and bacon or as a side dish with a main meal like steak or chicken! Here’s some tips on how you can make the best hash browns at home!
Tips For Crispy Hashbrowns
- Drain the liquid: If you want crispy hashbrowns you are going to need to strain as much liquid out of your shredded potatoes as you can!
- You can use a nut milk bag, cheese cloth, or clean kitchen tea towel for this!
- Preheat the pan: Make sure you pan is preheated and the oil is already nice and hot! This will make sure it crisps up nicely.
- Layer it evenly: Try not to layer it too thick or too thin! Too thick will lead to a soft hashbrown in the middle but if it’s too thin it can easily break.
- Ideally you want to layer it so you can barely see the bottom of your pan.
What You Need to Make Homemade Hash Browns
Supplies
Grater: For grating the potatoes.
Nut milk bag/ cheesecloth/ or kitchen tea towel: You need something to strain out as much liquid as possible from your potatoes before you cook them.
Bowl: For mixing the grated potatoes and other ingredients together in.
Pan: You will need a pan to cook your hash browns in.
Ingredients
Potatoes: I use frying potatoes not mashing potatoes. Frying potatoes hold their shape better while mashing potatoes break down easier.
Salt: I love some good old sea salt! Himalayan salt will work great too!
Black pepper: Just a little black pepper to taste!
Garlic powder: Garlic powder really gives these hash browns a lovely flavour!
Flour: I use tapioca flour which is gluten free and also absorbs any excess liquid in the potatoes. The flour also helps to bind the potatoes together better and makes them crispier.
