Here’s what you will need to make these delicious baked granola bars.
- Oats: You can use whole or quick oats for this recipe. I go for organic oats as they aren’t so heavily sprayed.
- Nut butter: You can use whatever nut butter you like! Wether it’s peanut butter, almond or I used ABC paste (Almond, Brazil nuts and Cashew).
- Honey: Definitely want some sort of sweetener, honey or maple syrup are great natural sweeteners to use.
- Sourdough Starter: It helps combine the mixture better and adds some nutrients from the sourdough. You can use discard for this recipe it does not need to be active since the baked good is not rising.
- Sea salt: I love good old natural sea salt. Gives flavour and filled with minerals.
- Vanilla: Adds a lovely taste.
- Add ins: Whatever you like! You can do a mixture of chopped nuts, dried fruit or chocolate chips!
- Dark Chocolate: (Optional) To add on top.
How To Make Granola Bars (Step by Step)
It’s so easy to make this homemade granola bar recipe, here’s how!
- Preheat oven to 180c/ 355F.
- In a large bowl combine the nut butter, honey, sourdough starter, vanilla and salt together.
- Add the oats and then add your add ins, I did equal parts chocolate chips and cranberries.
4. Spread mixture onto a lined baking tray and press down with a spoon or spatula.
5. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes.
6. If you want to add dark chocolate on top melt your chocolate and butter in a double boiler, while granola bars are baking.
7. Pull granola bars out of the oven and pour melted dark chocolate on top (optional)
8. Allow to cool on the bench, or I placed mine in the fridge for half an hour.
9. Remove from baking tray and slice into 12-14 slices.
10. Place in an airtight container and store in the cupboard or fridge. See notes for storage options.
